AccessAva is making legal info more accessible with Easy Read

AccessAva is making legal info more accessible! We now create all our content using Easy Read principles so that more people can understand their rights. It's developed by our in house team who have extensive experience developing communication resources for people with a learning disability or for others who find standard English challenging.

What is Easy Read?

Easy Read is a way of providing information that includes pictures, short, simple text, in an accessible font. It is designed to be accessible and to communicate important information in a way that is simple to understand.

Easy Read information has been produced in the UK for over 20 years and helps people with a learning disability understand their rights and participate in important decisions.

When we first launched AccessAva, we knew we wanted to include Easy Read content so that we could provide accessible information about the law to people with a learning disability.

We started by commissioning a third party to develop Easy Read content, but soon realised that we wanted the flexibility to develop our own content. Our team attended training on developing Easy Read and now work under the guidance of three colleagues with extensive experience in independent advocacy roles, developing communication resources for people with a learning disability.

We now develop Easy Read documents in tandem with new AccessAva topics. Drafts are reviewed by people with a learning disability on our user research panel or from partner organisations.
